Starting with a small office and $1000 in cash, Jana Grimes opened Austin Ribbon & Computer (ARC) back in 1984 to provide electronic typewriters, ribbons and supplies to State of Texas agencies. Computer hardware and peripherals quickly replaced the typewriters and ribbons and ARC's services expanded to include everything from network design consultation to contract management.
Over the past 11 years ARC has become the largest reseller of Dell computers to state and local agencies in Texas (in addition to representing 385 other manufacturers such as Toshiba, Panasonic, Okidata and others). After experiencing a 139% jump in revenue between 2001 and 2003, ARC was recognized as the fifth fastest-growing company in Central Texas (Austin Business Journal, September 2004) and the number one woman-owned business in the state (Austin Business Journal, August 2006).
In 2004, ARC added an IT Services Divisions dedicated to providing a full spectrum of IT Services that include installation, maintenance, repair and other services such as Asset Recovery and Secure Data Disposal.
